Impact Scholars Program
Embrace. Develop. Expand.
A Christ-centered Honors Program for High School Students
Our belief at GPS is that education best takes place in the context of relationship and community, an aspect sorely lacking in most American educational institutions. Education is more than about information transmission: it is about learning to think critically, communicate powerfully, collaborate deeply, all while becoming a contagious Christian that will impact the world for the Kingdom of God!
True education, throughout history, has transformed the heart as well as the head, yet with the advent of mass education in America, this moral formation was largely lost. Our Impact Scholars program is meant to recover this formative experience by fostering deep, relational learning, providing a space for Christian teenagers to flourish and be prepared to move forward as “rooted and grounded” disciples of Christ prepared for their future.
Mentorship
Mentorship
Scholars will be mentored closely by key academic staff and faculty, tailoring their experience at GPS to their future plans and allowing them to be guided by adults not only academically but spiritually as well. Once monthly check-in meetings will provide space for our scholars to share their success and struggles with a caring adult outside their family, and develop a plan for their continued success.
Advanced Courses
Advanced Courses
Members of the program are required to take two AP courses per year as a freshmen and sophomore; many schools will allow students to overload on AP classes early in their high school career, but our firm limit is 2 each year for 9th and 10th grade, following the latest research and practice by prestigious prep schools. Why? The goal is to limit the number to ensure our scholars have time to learn to study and manage an increased work load well, while also allowing them to be teenagers outside of school.
SAT/ACT Prep
SAT/ACT Prep
Impact scholars’ will have access to free SAT/ACT prep classes by Katie Boswell, who has assisted students in achieving qualifying scores to Ivy League schools and other prestigious universities. Further, all SAT/ACT (and AP) testing fees will be covered by the school for our on-site, twice yearly testing sessions.
Retreats/Trips
Retreats/Trips
In mid-August, all scholars will attend a retreat to spiritually, emotionally, and mentally re-center and renew themselves for the upcoming year.
An end of year trip will be built around the classes offered that year and for 25-26, it will be to Washington, D.C. as our scholars will be taking AP US History.
Finally, there will be a large college campus tour and small college campus tour each year.
Our Mission
The mission of Gainesville Preparatory School is to embrace each child as uniquely made in the image of God, and develop them as disciples of Christ who flourish spiritually, socially, and academically in order to expand the Kingdom of God on earth.
